Just Do It

As I was watching a Warriors game on NBA TV, I saw this Nike commercial and it really hit home for me. Here, Nike isn't really selling a certain item or product of theirs, but instead they are selling their brand experience and trying to sell the values of their company to us, the consumers. I liked the commercial a lot because it appeals to the mindset of every athlete including myself where we all have these dreams and goals in our athletic careers while we're young and we still believe that we can make it there. I believe that Nike is selling this mindset to us, appealing to our need to achieve and they are trying to tell us that if we think and play with the mindset of a "Nike Athlete", for the only two real NBA players showed towards the end were Lebron James and Kevin Durant who both have a contract with Nike, then we will succeed like them. This could also be a representation of narrow-casting, since I've only seen this video while watching a basketball game or when I was on that specific channel. The company wouldn't want to show this commercial on Nickelodeon where little kids are their audience, but they specifically made a basketball related commercial to air to those watching a basketball game and where many athletes will probably see it. I personally enjoyed the commercial itself because it showed the hard work that the player had to put in to reach his goal of playing in the NBA, and the concept of showing the different stages in his journey and where he wants to go was very powerful to me. The "Want it All" mindset they are selling here is a mindset that I believe all athletes have, with Nike or not.

  1. True, and I also have seen a lot of their commercials recently geared towards people more our age, the up and coming athletes. I think although it’s just an advertisement, it does inspire us to work harder and buy Nike, which is why we always see a ton of Nike sportswear and gear everywhere.
