Today's Mooks
What you see on media nowadays from some YouTube "stars" and so called "role models for our generation" is saddening. In our discussion before break, Mr. Starace brought up an example of mooks our age, and he mentioned the Paul brothers. They are definitely known for being absurdly obnoxious and annoying to the normal human being. Yet somehow they are multimillionaires and have millions of 12 year old fans willing to defend the two at all cost. I try to stay away from their videos at all cost and I don't know how people can even stand to watch them, yet the two seem to always cross my path in my social media outlets because of the horrible mistakes that they make.
Recently, Logan Paul made one of the biggest mistakes in his career. To start off the new year, he uploaded a video where he and his friends went into Aokigahara forest in Japan, or more commonly known as suicide forest. Already knowing where he was going, he continued to film during his trip there. Logan and his crew then came across a body that was hanging from a tree, and he included this image in his kid-friendly vlog while only blurring the victims face. He continued to record the body and even started to laugh and make jokes about it. The hanging body was also included in the thumbnail of the video in order to get views and bring him in more money.
This is just sick. So you go into a forest that is known for being a place where people go to take their own lives, and you come across a body and you are so in shock that you make jokes and laugh about it in order to "cope"? And you continue to film this person who was so depressed and sad that they took their own life, and you exploit them and make jokes about their corpse "to raise awareness about mental health"? It's pathetic. What sane person could continue to do this? To disrespect someone like this who isn't even alive to defend themselves is so upsetting to me and think about how this person's family feels like. The saddest thing about all of this is that Logan Paul's fans still stand up for his actions. I was scrolling through the comments of a post about this and I saw this like 11 year old say, "If you were really in the Logang and were a fan of his then you would stand up for him and support him", and others who say, "Guys stop hating on Logan he already apologized twice and you know he was just laughing because that's how people cope with grief and stuff like gosh he made one mistake" and much more. These fans can call people haters all they want but decent people can see that this isn't okay. He took the time to edit the video and look through it and consciously make the decision to upload the video. The fact that people can overlook this and act like it was no big deal is horrifying. When is it going to be too much? When are these fans going to wake up and realize that these idols they look up to are power and money hungry little kids who just want to be rich, and they could care less about their fans or literally anyone. I seriously feel like the Pauls could do nearly anything bad and one of their fans could say, "He said sorry geez get off his ...." These two brothers, especially Jake have been in some hot water due to their reckless behavior. I really hope that they are held responsible for their actions, and aren't just let off the hook and genuinely learn from their mistakes. I pray that one day the 20 year old Jake Paul and the 22 year old Logan Paul will grow up.
